Check your safe is (properly) certified – in 5 easy steps

To determine if a safe has been officially graded, inspect its certification label. This label, found on the inside of the door, indicates that the safe has undergone proper testing. For instance, a blank certification label from the European Certification Body (ECB•S) is an example of such a mark, although other organizations have similar labels containing comparable information.

To verify your safe’s protection level, follow these steps:

1- Ensure the certification number on the certificate matches the one on the label.

2- Obtain the certificate from the manufacturer or distributor, confirming details like the model and test standards.

3- Cross-check the certificate with the certification body’s website for verification of the manufacturer and product information.

4- Open the safe to locate the certification label; absence of a label means there’s no certification.

5- Confirm the resistance class or grade.
